Individual Disability Income Underwriter

Job Description:
Our client is seeking experienced Individual Disability Income (IDI) Underwriters to support their disability underwriting team during a high-demand period. This role will provide coverage while key team members are out of the office and in anticipation of upcoming retirements. This is a fast-paced role requiring strong technical underwriting expertise and the ability to manage a high volume of cases efficiently. Direct individual disability income underwriting experience is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and underwrite IDI insurance applications.

  • Assess medical, financial and occupational risk factors.

  • Apply underwriting authority to approve, modify or decline applications.

  • Manage a high-volume workload (4–6 new business cases daily, 9–15 case reviews daily).

  • Collaborate with internal teams and ensure timely case decisions.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with underwriting standards.


Requirements:

  • 5+ years of individual disability underwriting experience

  • 3+ years of IDI underwriting experience

  • Group Disability Income experience alone will not be considered

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

  • Minimum signing authority of $5,000+ per month

  • Experience working in a remote environment

  • Familiarity with underwriting systems and workflows


Pay Range:
The anticipated pay range for this position is $40-$55 per hour, based on experience. We understand salary is an important factor in a job search, and we encourage you to apply even if you feel that your desired compensation may fall outside of the listed range. The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
