Job Description:
A well-established organization dedicated to improving oral health outcomes is seeking a highly qualified Vice President Dental Director. The organization provides dental benefits and services, focusing on innovative policies and clinical excellence. The Vice President Dental Director will oversee the scientific and clinical aspects of benefits administration, ensuring alignment with current dental practices, evidence-based research, and regulatory requirements. This leadership role involves collaborating with internal teams, external stakeholders, and professional organizations to promote high-quality oral health care and drive strategic initiatives related to dental benefits and disease management.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify emerging trends and technologies in the dental industry and provide strategic analysis and recommendations to organizational leadership.

  • Review utilization, risk assessment data, and dental outcomes to develop and refine payment policies.

  • Provide clinical guidance on the necessity and appropriateness of dental treatments, ensuring benefit review procedures align with professional standards.

  • Oversee quality assurance programs by establishing performance metrics, developing protocols to improve care quality, and assessing outcomes to ensure continuous improvement.

  • Offer expertise in government administration and contracting to support organizational compliance and efficiency.

  • Lead initiatives to increase the adoption of risk-based dental benefits and disease management strategies, engaging both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with the Professional Relations team on network recruitment, credentialing, and fraud prevention efforts.

  • Act as a spokesperson representing the organization externally to stakeholders, professional associations, and the community.

  • Train and calibrate professional dental consultants to ensure consistent and accurate claims adjudication and policy adherence.

  • Serve as a key liaison to state and national dental organizations, regulatory agencies, and academic institutions for research, education, and policy advocacy.

  • Support product development, marketing, and community outreach efforts related to dental benefits and health education.

  • Lead the provider appeals committee and participate in various committees, coalitions, and special projects to advance oral health initiatives.

  • Perform additional duties as required to sustain organizational goals and objectives.


Requirements:

  • Doctor of Dental Science or Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from an accredited college of dentistry

  • State of Iowa dental licensure or willingness to obtain licensure

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience presenting publicly and representing an organization

  • Comprehensive knowledge of evidence-based dentistry, disease management, oral wellness and systemic health correlations

  • Familiarity with current dental science, utilization review standards, data analysis, practice protocols, CDT terminology and ADA issues

  • Experience with dental quality assurance programs, risk assessments and outcome measurement standards

  • Proven leadership, coaching and team development skills

  • Ability to travel up to 50% throughout Iowa and occasionally other states, including overnight stays

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Salary Range:
The anticipated pay for this position is $260,000.00 annually. We understand salary is an important factor in a job search and we encourage you to apply even if you feel that your desired compensation may fall outside of the listed range. The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
