Chief Financial Officer
Louisiana | Executive Search
Job Description:
A workers’ compensation insurance provider is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The CFO provides strategic and operational leadership for the organization’s financial health, overseeing accounting, investments, treasury, budgeting, tax, internal audit, and related administrative functions. As a key member of the executive team, the CFO partners closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to drive profitable growth, manage expenses, and ensure scalability and operational efficiency as the organization grows. This role goes beyond financial reporting, acting as a true business partner to senior leaders by informing operational decisions, challenging assumptions, and translating financial insights into actionable strategies. The CFO also leads and develops a high-performing finance team, fosters strong employee engagement, leads investor relations, and manages relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, shareholders, rating agencies, and the broader financial community. This is a retained search.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with the CEO, executive team, and Board to set financial strategy, evaluate performance against objectives, and ensure incremental growth is profitable, sustainable and aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Drive expense discipline and scalability by measuring efficiency across headcount, expenses, and premium dollars; educate leaders on operationalizing efficiencies; and ensure growth does not create a linear increase in costs.
- Provide enterprise-wide oversight of financial reporting, budgeting, treasury, reserves, SEC filings, tax, and regulatory compliance, while maintaining strong internal controls and fiscal integrity across the organization.
- Oversee reserves, investment policy and performance, and internal audit; participate in underwriting, disclosure, and investment committees; and ensure effective risk management, governance, and adherence to financial and investment policies.
- Develop and mentor finance, investment, and audit leaders; lead succession planning; act as a trusted business partner to peers; and represent the organization with auditors, shareholders, regulators, lenders, and the broader financial community.
- Advanced education and experience in accounting, finance, or business administration with practical experience valued over credentials
- CPA designation (preferred)
- Deep technical expertise in GAAP accounting, financial reporting, and economic principles; strong familiarity with financial markets, banking, and public company requirements, including Sarbanes-Oxley (Sections 302 and 404) and SEC reporting
- Broad understanding of the insurance industry, including regulatory and compliance environments, business operations, technology, products, and internal processes
- Statutory accounting experience (preferred)
- Proven ability to analyze and understand insurance reserves, particularly case-reserve-driven structures
- Actuarial experience (preferred)
