Job Description:
A newly formed life & health insurance company is seeking a highly skilled Chief Financial Officer to join their executive team. The company is focused on building a modern insurer from the ground up, with a strong emphasis on scalable profitability and innovative financial strategies. The CFO will serve as the principal advisor to the CEO, owning the entire finance end-to-end process and shaping the company's financial future. This role involves leading statutory and GAAP reporting, overseeing audit and control environments, and ensuring compliance with insurance tax regulations. The CFO will also build and manage the capital plan, oversee the investment portfolio, and develop the operating model for the finance function. Critical responsibilities include translating unit economics into actionable insights, pressure-testing growth strategies, and working closely with the board and executive team to inform decisions. The role offers flexibility with remote work, with strategic leadership gatherings occurring once per month. This is a retained search.

Responsibilities:

• Own statutory and GAAP financial reporting and lead a disciplined close, audit process, and control environment.
• Drive insurance tax strategy and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Build the analytical foundation for growth, profitability, and capital allocation decisions and communicate the financial narrative to the board and sponsors.
• Lead capital planning, solvency management, and advise on capital raises and deployment strategies.
• Structure and evaluate reinsurance solutions to support company growth and capital efficiency.
• Establish the finance function's structure, including cost allocation approach and internal controls.
• Implement the core finance and accounting technology stack, governance, and operating rhythms.
• Oversee the general account investment portfolio and manage the asset-liability management framework.
• Set investment governance and manage relationships with internal and external asset managers.

Requirements:

• Senior finance leadership experience in a life and health insurance environment
• Confidence in statutory reporting and capital requirements
• Proven ability to run a high-quality close, reporting, and audit process with strong controls
• Hands-on experience managing insurance tax strategy and compliance across federal and state obligations
• Strong judgment on capital planning and growth-to-profitability paths with credibility at the board level
• Working fluency in reinsurance and structuring treaties with actuarial and legal partners
• Experience overseeing general account investments with sound governance
• Track record of building and scaling a finance function, including systems, processes, and teams
