Lost Time Claims Examiner

Job Description:
Our client, the world's largest publicly traded property and casualty insurance company, is looking to bring on three Lost Time Claims Examiners at their offices in Connecticut.
Responsibilities:
- Handle all aspects of workers' compensation lost time claims from setup to case closure, ensuring strong customer relations are maintained throughout the process.
- Review claim and policy information to provide background for investigation.
- Conduct three-part ongoing investigations, obtaining facts and taking statements as necessary, with the insured, claimant and medical providers.
- Evaluate the facts gathered through the investigation to determine compensability of the claim.
- Inform insureds, claimants and attorneys of claim denials when applicable.
- Prepare reports on investigation, settlements, denials of claims and evaluations of involved parties, etc.
- Ensure timely administration of statutory medical and indemnity benefits throughout the life of the claim.
- Set reserves within authority limits for medical, indemnity and expenses, and recommend reserve changes to team leader throughout the life of the claim.
- Review the claim status at regular intervals and make recommendations to the team leader to address issues and implement remedial actions.
- Prepare and submit to the team leader unusual or potentially undesirable exposures when encountered.
- Work with attorneys to manage hearings and litigation.
- Control and direct vendors, nurse case managers, telephonic cases managers and rehabilitation managers on medical management and return-to-work initiatives.
- Comply with customer service requests, including special claims handling procedures, file status notes and claim reviews.
- File workers' compensation forms and electronic data with states to ensure compliance with statutory regulations.
- Refer appropriate claims to subrogation and secure necessary information to maximize recovery opportunities.
- Work with in-house technical assistants, special investigators, nurses, consultants, telephonic case managers and team supervisors to exceed customer expectations for exceptional claims-handling service.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of workers' compensation statutes, regulations and compliance
- Ability to incorporate data analytics and modeling into daily activities to expedite fair and equitable resolution of claims and claim issues
- Exceptional customer service and focus
- Ability to collaborate with leadership and peers to accomplish goals
- Demonstrates a commitment to a career in claims
- Experience working in a customer focused, fast-paced and fluid environment
- Experience utilizing strong communication and telephonic skills
- Prior experience requiring a high level of organization, follow-up and accountability
- Prior workers' compensation claim-handling experience (preferred)
- Familiarity with claim handling (healthcare, short-term/long-term disability, auto personal injury protection/medical injury or general liability) (preferred)
- Prior insurance, legal or corporate business experience (preferred)
- AIC, RMA or CPCU completed coursework or designation(s) (preferred)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products
- Knowledge of medical terminology (preferred)
- Knowledge of bill processing (preferred)
- Claim adjuster licenses in Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, required but not at the time of posting; must obtain a resident or designated home state adjuster's license

Pay Range:
The anticipated pay range for this position is $35 - $42 per hour.

The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
