Middle Market Lead Field Underwriter

Job Description:
Our client, a regional property and casualty insurance company providing personal insurance, commercial insurance and surety products in all 50 states, is seeking a Middle Market Lead Underwriter. This role leads the monthly renewal strategy meeting, serves as an account steward for the customer and acts as a key point of contact for the agency. The underwriter is responsible for maintaining and implementing service strategies that uphold the company's commitment to customer service. Candidates should reside in Florida and be willing to commute part of the time.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the review and underwriting of individual applications (new and renewal) for commercial lines and agribusiness, assessing risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
- Calculate potential risk and determine appropriate insurance premiums using actuarial data, relevant statistics, and personal judgement, within established authority levels; escalate as needed per company policy.
- Set accurate, timely premium forecasts and business plans to help leadership develop budgets and performance targets.
- Build and maintain effective communication with agents and internal teams regarding underwriting procedures, growth goals and agency relationships.
- Stay informed on branch underwriting strategies related to appetite and pricing adjustments; assist in strategy execution.
- Develop and execute an agency strategy to grow the business and participate in continuing education related to underwriting.
- Notify agencies of adverse underwriting decisions, status updates, requirements and declinations; respond to inquiries from agencies, policyholders or external stakeholders, escalating issues as necessary.
- Remain current on state and regional insurance regulations, industry activity and trends, and share insights with the team.
- Provide subject matter expertise for departmental projects, initiatives and special studies related to underwriting procedures and practices.
- Support the training and development of new team members; may mentor underwriters seeking development or act as a work lead for interns, assistants or junior underwriters.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of commercial underwriting experience
- Bachelor's degree in business or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
Pay Range:
The anticipated pay range for this position is $100K - $120K annually. We understand salary is an important factor in a job search, and we encourage you to apply even if you feel that your desired compensation may fall outside of the listed range. The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
