Senior Commercial Lines Field Underwriter

Job Description:
A leading insurance organization is seeking a Senior Commercial Lines Field Underwriter to join a dynamic team during a pivotal period of growth and transformation. In this role, the selected candidate will drive profitable business development, strengthen strategic agency relationships and advance underwriting best practices within Massachusetts. Responsibilities:

Drive profitable growth by achieving underwriting and production goals across an assigned territory.

Evaluate and underwrite new business submissions by analyzing risk and making informed decisions on quoting or declining accounts.

Set pricing strategies and recommend coverages to optimize risk and enhance competitiveness.

Apply underwriting authority responsibly, exercising sound judgment and managing exceptions effectively.

Analyze agency portfolios to identify trends, risks and growth opportunities; develop targeted strategies to improve profitability and portfolio quality.

Cultivate strong agency partnerships through exceptional service, communication and strategic collaboration.

Partner with agents and Business Development Representatives to uncover opportunities and support growth initiatives.

Execute agency visitation plans to deepen relationships and maximize results.

Research, diagnose and resolve complex underwriting issues with clear actionable solutions.

Stay informed on industry trends, market conditions and competitor activity to refine underwriting strategies.

Travel as needed within Massachusetts to maintain strong agency connections and support business growth.
Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience

4+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience (or 6+ years with an Associate degree or equivalent)

Deep knowledge of insurance industry practices, underwriting principles and risk evaluation for complex accounts

Proven ability to make sound decisions within broad authority using analytical judgment

Demonstrated success in managing agency relationships, negotiating and delivering high-quality service

Excellent communication, organization and time management capabilities

Experience mentoring or guiding colleagues and technical prowess in underwriting (preferred)

Professional designations such as AU, CPCU or CIC (preferred)

Experience in reinsurance, filings or industry-specific committees (preferred)

Strategic mindset focused on long-term portfolio performance and profitability (preferred)

Ability to balance underwriting discipline with growth initiatives and relationship management (preferred)
Pay Range:
The anticipated pay range for this position is $80,000 to $105,000 annually. We understand that salary is an important factor in a job search, and we encourage you to apply even if you feel that your desired compensation may fall outside of the listed range. The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
