Job Description:
A specialty, surplus and excess lines insurance carrier is seeking a Senior Vice President, Specialty. The Senior Vice President, Specialty will be responsible for the growth and profitability of the specialty segment, including the three programs within alarm, guard and private investigators. This position involves the oversight of the underwriting, quoting and binding of both new and renewal submissions. The Senior Vice President will also collaborate with the business development team to expand the specialty footprint. The company operates in 48 states and jurisdictions and aims to grow this segment to $500 million in five years. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully building profitable E&S business. The target risk profile is casualty-driven segments such as artisan contractors, energy and security accounts. The company is also focused on expanding into other program business, specifically targeting highly profitable niche E&S specialty markets, leveraging the extensive experience of its top executives. This is a retained search.


Responsibilities:

  • Execute the company’s distribution and marketing strategies, aligning them with overall corporate goals and objectives.
  • Lead primary and referral-level account evaluations, including application of terms, pricing, risk selection and documentation.
  • Maintain program guidelines and underwriting authority, ensuring compliance with insurer policies, processes and risk appetite for the specialty segments.
  • Serve as the point of contact for third-party wholesale and retail producers to build sustainable long-term, profitable relationships.
  • Drive product development, service, selection, pricing and innovation for specialty segments.
  • Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and competitive landscapes to make informed decisions and adapt strategies as needed, including adding additional market niches to the portfolio of business.

Requirements:
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in underwriting with a carrier, MGA or insurance producer
  • Familiarity with automated systems and contract-binding authority in the market
  • Proven track record of profitable underwriting results
  • Existing relationships within the E&S wholesale market strongly (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced education (MBA or industry certification) (preferred)
