Job Description:
Develops and manages agency and broker relationships, including the development of new business and retention of existing business within a territory. Reviews, analyzes, quotes or declines policies within the authority granted by capacity partners. Serves as liaison with company personnel regarding opportunities and problem resolution.

Responsibilities:
- Prepares and develops premium quotations using underwriting guidelines within letter of authority.
- Determines underwriting eligibility for prospective policyholders and develops appropriate pricing for new business, renewals and endorsements.
- Analyzes and reviews prospective accounts for insurability and accepts or rejects within letter of authority.
- Develops and manages agency relationships.
- Addresses agents’ and policyholders’ concerns and needs.
- Responsible for development of new business, profitability and retention of existing business in a given territory.
- Explains and emphasizes benefits of company insurance products and services to customers.
- Works with all internal departments to resolve problems and maintain company relations.
- Participates in special committees, both internal and external to the company.
- Participates in promotional plans for both company and agent activities.
- Analyzes and reviews production and loss information for agents, determines exposure and develops corrective action plans as needed to correct poor performance.
- Prepares periodic reports as requested.
- Manages territory under close supervision.
- Researches and coordinates responses to agents, policyholders and regulatory entities.
- Appoints and trains new agents and agency employees on the use of company-specific systems and processes.
- Reviews loss trends and develops action plans to correct problem areas.
- Gathers competitive and product information as needed.
- Represents company at trade associations and exhibits to promote company products.
- Conducts periodic agency audits.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in insurance with technical knowledge in one or more of the following: underwriting, marketing, loss prevention, auditing or other relevant areas
- Workers’ compensation or property and casualty insurance experience
- Advanced judgment skills to evaluate and determine proper pricing for prospective policyholders using underwriting guidelines
- Proven ability to manage agency relationships and make sound underwriting decisions
- In-depth understanding of jurisdictional workers' compensation laws
- Proficient in calculating pricing, dividends and premium quotations for agents and policyholders
- Strong analytical skills to identify problems in a territory and implement corrective actions
- Sound decision-making skills to address problem situations or escalate for further action
- Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to present ideas clearly and respond to questions as needed
- Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities when facing unique situations
- Skilled in analyzing and solving practical problems involving multiple variables
- Independent decision-maker with the ability to manage data effectively
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
- Knowledge of audit procedures and the ability to implement them with agencies
- Familiar with occupational classification codes, loss ratios, claims histories and retention plans related to workers' compensation
- Capable of communicating the company’s value proposition to external stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, insurance, or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for education
- Progress toward or completion of CPCU or other recognized insurance designation preferred. MBA or advanced degree is a plus
