Director and Assistant Actuary

Job Description:
A property and casualty client is seeking a Director and Assistant Actuary. This professional will work in commercial auto and lead a small team of two individuals. The position can be performed in either Pennsylvania or New York. 

Responsibilities:

  • Initiate, organize and lead actuarial work in support of rate indications, reserving, profitability analysis and other analysis.
  • Delegate projects to direct reports.
  • Manage multiple assignments independently and simultaneously.
  • Oversee and execute important projects in a timely manner.
  • Manage, grow and develop team members and advocate for their continued development, as needed.
  • Collaborate with business partners in underwriting, sales, product development and program management.
  • Communicate results, insights and initial recommendations to other departments and actuarial leadership. Communicate to external partners, as needed.
  • Act as a vocal leader within the department.
  • Suggest and implement methodology enhancements and enable efficiencies within the department and throughout the organization.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation that allows another analyst to understand and recreate the work product, including a complete set of assumptions, data parameters, intended purposes, etc.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or another field with a rigorous mathematics background
  • 5+ years of actuarial property and casualty experience; commercial auto experience (preferred)
  • An ACAS or similar designation
  • Results-oriented with the ability to multitask and adjust priorities
  • Strong presentation and meeting leadership skills
  • Proficient in Excel; familiarity with SQL and VBA
