Job Description:
This position is for a Senior Environmental Claims Specialist who will be responsible for handling pollution claims in a remote work environment. The role involves handling commercial environmental claims where you will be managing claims in litigation and properly setting claim reserves. The successful candidate will collaborate effectively within a team and utilize sound judgment to determine claim outcomes.

Job Responsibilities:

• Handling commercial environmental claims at the highest authority limits on assignments reflecting the highest degree of technical complexity.

• Conducting detailed information gathering, analysis and investigation.

• Reporting to senior management and underwriters on claims trends and developments.

• Analyzing claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions, and other records to determine whether the loss falls within the policy coverage.

• Investigating claims promptly and thoroughly, including interviewing all involved parties.

• Managing claims in litigation.

• Completing tasks in a timely manner to ensure cases move to the best financial outcome and timely resolution.

• Properly setting claim reserves.

• Identifying loss drivers and claims trends.

• Identifying, assigning, and coordinating the assignment and coordination of expertise resources to assist in case resolution.

• Preparing reports for file documentation.

• Negotiating in a timely and effective manner.

• Completing telephone calls and written correspondence to/from various parties (insured, claimant, etc.).

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience adjudicating 3rd party commercial environmental claims

• Clear understanding of environmental policy types, including distinctions between commercial general liability, pollution policies and storage tank policies

• Ability to articulate specific environmental claims handled, including details of contamination events, coverage decisions and claim outcomes

• Demonstrated experience with litigated environmental claims, including participation in proceedings, depositions, negotiations and settlements

• Strong coverage analysis skills, especially related to pollution exclusions and environmental liability provisions

• Ability to independently draft accurate, policy specific coverage letters that address pollution conditions and relevant exclusions

• Experience working with environmental consultants and attorneys, and understanding the distinct roles each plays

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

• Licensed claims examiner (based on state)

Pay Range:
The anticipated pay range for this position is $52.00 - $68.00 per hour. We understand salary is an important factor in a job search, and we encourage you to apply even if you feel that your desired compensation may fall outside of the listed range. The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
