Job Description:
Our client, a health insurance provider, is looking to bring on a Group Health Underwriter II. This is a contract to hire role located in Pennsylvania. 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review various ratings, analyze cases, and employ various underwriting risk assessment techniques depending on the appropriate approach for the specific customer.
  • Use supporting documentation for analysis and make recommendations internally to underwriting management and sales based on established authority level.
  • Assist junior underwriters to help meet department needs and develop skills.
  • Attend customer and broker dialogues in order to develop consultative skills.
  • Possess solid working knowledge of healthcare reform, risk assessment, marketplace conditions, competitive landscape and relevant business acumen.
  • Underwrite medical, pharmacy or ancillary lines of business, as needed.
  • Work closely with the sales team to advise on compliance with underwriting requirements and customer risk characteristics.


Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of insurance concepts, underwriting, rating techniques and basic risk evaluation
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight timeframes
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, as well as the ability to recognize, research and resolve discrepancies
  • Exhibit a prescribed level of proficiency across all competencies, as defined in the underwriting competency model
  • Detail oriented, as well as skilled in problem solving, mathematics and algebraic concepts
  • Solid interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office products and internal underwriting support systems
  • 3+ years of experience working in a group insurance environment
  • 2+ years of experience working in a medical underwriting environment
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; Master of Business Administration degree (preferred)
