Job Description:
An experienced Underwriter is needed to evaluate and process large group insurance quotes, focusing on level funding and administrative services only (ASO)/stop loss products. This four-month work-from-home role involves reviewing Request for Proposal (RFP) submissions, analyzing data accuracy, adjusting underwriting modules and collaborating with managers to ensure accurate risk assessment. The position requires a thorough understanding of underwriting principles and the ability to adapt specialized tools to support underwriting decisions in a remote setting.

Responsibilities:

• Enter basic data from RFPs into rating modules for new business and renewal groups.
• Review RFP submissions for data appropriateness, contract terms and consistency with existing contracts.
• Determine necessary changes to standard modules based on the review, including fully insured, level funded or ASO/stop loss rate development.
• Adjust credibility factors to shift risk as appropriate.
• Review large claims data to decide if projections should be modified for stop loss calculations.
• Assess the use of Lasers (large account risk pricing) for ASO groups.
• Calculate how variable discounts, such as network access fees, can reduce ASO fees based on competitive renewal data.
• Identify the most suitable contract types for specific group characteristics and renewal periods.
• Decide when to pursue or avoid groups based on their performance and market opportunities.
• Apply underwriting discretion across funded and non-funded group types.
• Discuss quote recommendations with management and outline contingencies before submitting proposals.
• Collaborate with team members to refine underwriting modules, particularly for ASO/stop loss products

• 5+ years of underwriting experience in level funding and/or stop loss products
• Expertise in underwriting large groups with 50 to 5,000 lives
• Bachelor’s degree
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams
