Senior Reserving Actuary

Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Reserving Actuary to lead actuarial initiatives related to year-end loss reserving, financial reporting and regulatory compliance. This role requires deep technical expertise in reserving methodologies, advanced analytical capabilities, and hands-on proficiency with actuarial tools and data systems. The Senior Reserving Actuary will operate in a fast-paced insurance environment, delivering high-quality analysis and translating complex actuarial insights into clear, actionable guidance for senior leadership and business partners.
Responsibilities:

Perform loss reserving analyses across multiple lines of business and diverse program portfolios.

Prepare and present actual versus expected analyses of held reserves, highlighting key drivers of development to senior leadership.

Analyze held reserves against external actuarial indications and provide insights into reserve adequacy and material changes.

Prepare, validate, and reconcile data for internal reserve reviews, external actuarial opinions and regulatory filings.

Ensure actuarial assumptions, methodologies, and documentation meet industry best practices and regulatory standards.

Support statutory, GAAP and IFRS reporting requirements.

Collaborate with finance, risk, and compliance teams to meet regulatory obligations, including ORSA, actuarial opinions and Schedule P.

Participate in peer reviews of Statements of Actuarial Opinion to ensure rigor and consistency.

Serve as a strategic advisor to underwriting, claims, and program management teams by translating actuarial findings into business recommendations.

Assess reserve adequacy for new and existing portfolios and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Enhance reserving processes through automation, improved analytics and scalable governance frameworks.

Mentor junior actuarial staff and contribute to a collaborative, high-performance team culture.

Represent the actuarial function in internal and external meetings, effectively communicating complex concepts to diverse audiences.

Partner with reinsurance counterparts to ensure alignment between reserve indications and reinsurance communications.

Maintain compliance with all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, including prudent business management, customer interest considerations, sanctions and financial crime regulations, licensing requirements, whistleblowing procedures, and applicable consumer duty standards.
Requirements:

7+ years of actuarial experience within a carrier, MGA, reinsurer or consulting environment

Demonstrated expertise in reserving complex or multi-line portfolios, including program business

Working knowledge of multiple commercial and personal lines

Strong understanding of insurance accounting frameworks (statutory and GAAP), reinsurance structures and claims development patterns

Advanced proficiency in ResQ, Excel and SQL, including experience with system integrations; familiarity with predictive modeling or advanced analytics (preferred)

Experience supporting state filings and regulatory reporting (highly preferred)

Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related quantitative field

ACAS or FCAS designation with significant post-qualification experience

MAAA membership
-
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
