Senior Commercial Auto Underwriter

Job Description:
A leading insurance organization is seeking multiple Senior Commercial Auto Underwriters to manage and shape its commercial auto book of business. In this critical role, the selected candidates will influence profitability, ensure rate adequacy and build strong relationships with agents and internal teams. This position plays a key part in supporting company growth and industry excellence, while providing guidance to less experienced underwriters and fostering collaboration across departments.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop the commercial auto insurance book of business, with a focus on profitability and rate adequacy.

  • Evaluate and underwrite commercial auto risks in accordance with the Commercial Auto (CAR) manual, rules and regulations.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with agents, brokers and internal teams to support business development and retention.

  • Conduct thorough risk assessments using strong analytical skills and sound business judgment.

  • Mentor and guide less experienced underwriters, contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

  • Negotiate terms and conditions with agents and brokers to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

  • Monitor market trends, industry conditions and fraud indicators to inform underwriting decisions.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support organizational goals and underwriting excellence.


Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in commercial lines underwriting or a related insurance role

  • Deep knowledge of the Commercial Auto (CAR) manual, rules and regulations

  • Strong analytical skills and business judgment for risk assessment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

  • Proven negotiation, relationship management and customer service skills

  • Effective time management and organizational capabilities

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in a related field

  • Industry designations such as AU; progress toward CPCU or CIC (preferred)

  • Experience working with agency management and supporting business development (preferred)

  • Familiarity with industry trends, market conditions and fraud detection techniques (preferred)


Pay Range:
The anticipated pay range for this position is $95,000 to $110,000 annually. We understand that salary is an important factor in a job search, and we encourage you to apply even if you feel that your desired compensation may fall outside of the listed range. The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
