Job Description:
Our client, a global program manager, is seeking a Lead Actuary, Pricing. This individual will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the company's actuarial pricing strategy for its North American programs portfolio. This role requires actuarial expertise, attention to detail, strategic thinking and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with underwriting, data, program operations, finance and reinsurance teams. This is a remote position; however, if the candidate resides within a 50 mile radius of New York City, they will be required to go into the office on a hybrid basis.
Responsibilities:
- Lead actuarial due diligence for new program opportunities, performing profitability and loss modeling analyses to inform underwriting decisions.
- Produce comprehensive reports and communicate recommendations that identify key risks, expected performance, sensitivity analysis, and alignment with company profitability targets.
- Identify data gaps and partner with internal and external stakeholders to resolve data or assumption challenges.
- Serve as a senior member of the actuarial team, mentoring junior analysts and fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
- Represent the actuarial function in internal and external meetings, clearly communicating complex actuarial findings to non-technical audiences.
- Partner with reserving and reinsurance actuaries to ensure consistency between pricing assumptions and booked reserves.
- Collaborate across multiple departments to ensure actuarial perspectives inform underwriting, reinsurance operations and financial strategies.
- Maintain compliance with any applicable United States or international statutory or regulatory obligation as required by the role.
- Build analytical processes by leveraging cloud-based data sources, ensuring actuarial models are accurate, scalable and automated.
- Collaborate with the data team to maintain data integrity and address systemic data quality issues across programs.
- Drive the use of Power BI, SQL, R or Python for streamlined actuarial reporting, trend analysis and predictive insights. Identify opportunities for automation and data integration to enhance actuarial efficiency and accuracy.
- Provide actionable insights to underwriters, MGAs and program managers regarding renewal strategies, portfolio tiering approaches and rate change targets.
- Partner with underwriting to recommend program adjustments based on empirical data and actuarial review.
- Support periodic reviews of rate adequacy and contribute to rate filings and pricing memoranda as needed.
Requirements:
- Strong SQL skills; knowledge of VBA, R or Python (preferred)
- Advanced proficiency in Excel
- Effective communicator and team player with the ability to present technical findings clearly to both internal stakeholders and external partners
- Exceptional problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to interpret and synthesize complex data
- Ability to influence cross-functional decision-making and mentor team members
- Bachelor’s degree in Math, Actuarial Science, Business or other quantitative majors
- ACAS designation; FCAS (preferred)
- 7+ years of actuarial experience, including at least 3 years in pricing and program analysis
- Experience with rate monitoring automation, cloud-based actuarial processes and data visualization preferred
- Prior exposure to state filings and multi-line program business (preferred)
- Working knowledge of multiple commercial and personal lines
- Experience with programs business (preferred)
Pay Range:
The anticipated pay range for this position is $140K+ annually. The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
